Arik Brauer was multi-talented and, in addition to painting, devoted himself to theatre, music and literature. He received his artistic training from 1945 to 1951 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna with Andersen and Gütersloh. At first he made a living from performing as a singer and thus financed his study trips in Europe and the Middle East. It was not until 1960 that painting became his main activity. With his friends from the Art Club he founded the "Vienna School of Fantastic Realism". After the group exhibition of the “Phantas” in 1959 in the Austrian Gallery, international recognition followed. Brauer, who has worked in Vienna and Israel since 1964, has received numerous national and international commissions. In 1986 he was appointed to the Vienna Academy, where he worked as a professor until 1997. Characteristic of Brauer's artistic work is the detailed layered painting incorporating current political events into pictures with a dreamlike and fairytale atmosphere.
